About DiC

The Disability Information Center (DiC) is a forward-thinking organization dedicated to advancing the rights, opportunities, and societal participation of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). Through a holistic, data-driven, and innovation-centered approach, DiC works to dismantle barriers in education, employment, and assistive technology (AT) access. By combining community-led initiatives, policy advocacy, and sustainable interventions, DiC ensures that PWDs are not only included but also empowered to thrive in all aspects of life.

DiC has actively participated in the Tigray Disability Technical Working Group, collaborating with government bodies, NGOs, and advocacy groups to advance disability rights in the region. DiC contributed to policy discussions, strategic planning, and program development, emphasizing inclusive healthcare, education, and employment opportunities. It also advocated for disability-inclusive post-conflict recovery, promoted awareness campaigns, and strengthened partnerships to enhance coordinated efforts for sustainable impact.

DiC participated in comprehensive needs assessments in key Tigray towns (Shire, Hawzien, Maichew, and Mekelle) to identify barriers faced by persons with disabilities (PWDs), including inaccessible infrastructure, lack of assistive devices, and educational challenges. The assessments highlighted critical gaps in services for displaced populations and children with disabilities, leading to targeted recommendations such as policy advocacy, infrastructural improvements, and capacity-building initiatives.

Additionally, DiC is developing a disability and inclusion data system to support evidence-based policy making and humanitarian efforts. The center has also expanded its network by partnering with organizations across Tigray, strengthening collaborative advocacy and service delivery. These efforts underscore DiC’s commitment to fostering disability inclusion through data-driven strategies and community engagement.
